Yashasvi Jaiswal is on the verge of breaking Sunil Gavaskar's 49-year-old record to become the fastest Indian to reach 2000 Test runs. He needs just 97 runs in the upcoming Edgbaston Test against England to surpass Gavaskar, who achieved the milestone in 23 Tests. Jaiswal's recent century in Leeds has fueled anticipation for this historic feat.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, the dynamic Indian opener, is on the cusp of achieving a significant milestone. He is just 97 runs short of becoming the quickest Indian batsman to reach 2,000 Test runs. The young left-hander has the opportunity to eclipse Sunil Gavaskar's long-standing, 49-year-old record when India squares off against England in the second Test at Edgbaston, starting on July 2.

Jaiswal's consistency has been a major positive for India, particularly during this transitional phase in Test cricket. His recent century in the first Test at Headingley highlighted his exceptional talent, although his efforts weren't enough to prevent India from suffering a five-wicket defeat. Despite setting a challenging target of 371 runs, India was stunned by England's successful chase, spearheaded by Ben Duckett, Zak Crawley, and Joe Root, giving England a 1-0 advantage in the five-match series.

Jaiswal's individual form remains a key source of hope for India as they aim to level the series at Edgbaston. In just 20 Test matches, he has accumulated 1,903 runs at an impressive average of 52.86.

The current record for the fastest Indian to reach 2,000 Test runs is held by Sunil Gavaskar, who achieved the feat in his 23rd Test back in 1976. Gavaskar went on to become the first cricketer to score 10,000 Test runs. Following him are Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag, who reached the milestone in their 25th Tests.

With his stylish strokeplay and remarkable composure, Jaiswal has the chance to surpass these legends and provide India with a crucial boost in a must-win Test.
