Aamir Khan, the acclaimed Bollywood actor, has recently opened up about his profound emotional struggles following his divorce from his first wife, Reena Dutta. In a candid revelation, Khan admitted to grappling with suicidal thoughts and resorting to alcohol as a coping mechanism during that turbulent period.

In an interview with The Lallantop, the actor disclosed that he "drank every day" after the 2002 divorce. "I was trying to kill myself,” he confessed, shedding light on the depth of his despair.

Khan also spoke about his withdrawal from social interactions and professional commitments during that time. Ironically, this period coincided with the release of Lagaan, the film that propelled him to international stardom. He recalled the irony of being celebrated as "Man of the Year" in a newspaper article, while privately battling immense emotional turmoil.

In a previous discussion with Instant Bollywood, Khan described being "in mourning" for two to three years following the breakup. "I wasn’t working or listening to scripts. I was alone at home, and for almost one and a half years, I drank a lot. You will be shocked to know that I was a teetotaler. After the split, I didn’t know what to do,” he stated.

Reflecting on his journey of healing, the actor emphasized the importance of acknowledging and accepting loss. “You have to face your losses and accept how important it was for you. Accept that what was once yours is not there now."

Aamir Khan and Reena Dutta were married for 16 years and have two children, Junaid and Ira. Despite their separation, they have maintained a friendly relationship and continue to co-parent their children. The actor's willingness to share his experience highlights the importance of addressing mental health challenges, particularly in the aftermath of significant life events.
