A formal petition has been submitted to KBS, requesting a ban on BTS member SUGA's appearances due to his 2024 DUI offense while serving as a social service agent. The petitioner argues that SUGA's actions endanger others and his continued presence on television could undermine public awareness of DUI crimes, urging KBS to take swift action.

Petition Seeks to Ban BTS's Suga From KBS Following DUI Conviction

A formal petition has been lodged with the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS), advocating for the prohibition of BTS member Suga from appearing on the network due to a past drunk driving offense. The petition, which was posted on KBS’s viewer message board, implores the broadcaster's Appearance Regulation Review Committee to assess the singer’s suitability for future broadcasts.

Petition urges KBS to ban BTS star Suga

Entitled "Request to restrict Suga's appearance in relation to his DUI fine," the petition highlights an incident that occurred on August 6, 2024. During this time, Suga, who was serving as a social service agent, was apprehended while operating an electric scooter under the influence of alcohol. His blood alcohol content was reportedly above 0.08%, a level that leads to license revocation under South Korean law. Subsequently, he was fined 15 million KRW (approximately $11,000) via a summary order issued in September 2024.

According to allkpop, the petitioner contends that drunk driving is a "serious offense that can directly endanger others." They voiced concerns regarding the potential message that Suga's presence on television could convey to younger viewers. The petition emphasizes, "As a public figure with considerable influence over young people, Suga's continued appearances on television could weaken public awareness of the gravity of DUI crimes."

The petitioner also pointed out that KBS had not addressed the issue previously due to the ongoing investigation. However, the legal proceedings have concluded, with the fine finalized on September 27, 2024. Suga officially completed his alternative military service on June 21, 2025.

"Prompt and fair measures must be taken to maintain public trust and uphold the broadcaster’s responsibility as a public institution," the petition concludes, urging immediate action from the committee.

Currently, KBS has not issued a public response to the petition.
